TCU men fall to Utah

The No. 34 TCU men’s tennis team fell to Utah 4-3 on Thursday at the BYU Tennis Complex in Provo, Utah. With the loss, the Horned Frogs fell to 16-6 and 3-1 in Mountain West Conference play.

Kriegler Brink improved to 20-1 in his junior season with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Othman Zerouali-Quariti at the No. 3 spot. Brink’s win marked his 10th victory in the last 11 matches. Emanu Brighiu rallied to defeat Miron Mann in a three-set match, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, for his fourth consecutive victory. Rounding out the Horned Frogs’ scoring was freshman Zach Nichols, who notched a 6-3, 6-2 victory over John Taylor at the No. 5 position. The win improved Nichols to 19-3 on the season.

The Frogs lost the doubles point after dropping all three doubles matches.

“I’m disappointed, but Utah played well in the altitude and indoors,” TCU coach Dave Borelli said. “We have to prepare for tomorrow, and we still need to win the next two matches to win the Mountain West title.”

TCU continues its weekend road trip Friday in Provo against San Diego State.
