Beamer shares thoughts

Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer recently was asked whether he puts much stock in those high-profile recruits who receive five-stars by recruiting experts. Beamer said he generally pays little attention to it, but said there are exceptions like Duke defensive tackle Vince Oghobaase (6-6, 300), an Alief Hastings graduate who had 68 tackles and 12 sacks as a senior and was the top defensive tackle in Texas that year, according to Scout.com.
"I think this time they were accurate," Beamer said. "This case it's true. This guy can play."

Some other takes...
On whether it helps in recruiting to have players go on to the NFL: "I think results are the thing you want. And when you get a recruit who's a great kid, who comes through your program and goes to the NFL, that gets a lot of peoples attention."

On the challenges of recruiting and rebuilding a program: "When kids come to your camp and see, and talk to other kids, that's what sells your program. If you're solid there, you got a shot. If you're not solid it doesn't matter how many games you've won. If you're solid and kids see progress is being made, you're doing things the right way, then I think you've got a chance to recruit kids."
