Loftin switches to Mustangs

Aledo coach Tim Buchanan confirmed that quarterback Cole Loftin has decommitted from Utah and has committed to SMU.
"He sure did,'' Buchanan said. "It was over the weekend. To be honest, he always liked SMU. When the staff turned over, they kept calling him but no one was there to offer him anything. The whole time they kept calling, and his dad asked, 'What do you think about SMU?' I told him I don't know coach Jones very well. As of today, he comitted to play and he met with Utah coaches last night at his house. He made up his mind he was going to SMU.''
Loftin, a Star-Telegram Area 50 recruit, has been recruited as a wide receiver, and will likely play slot.

Recruiting notes

Personally, I don't need 75 different "storylines" shoved down my throat between now and Super Bowl Sunday. Some recruiting notes...
1.) Just talked to Todd Dodge. The UNT head coach had some great thoughts for an upcoming story.
2.) To those assistants and parents who have contacted us with commitments...Bless you. Keep it coming. Here's my email - mtthompson@star-telegram.com
3.) Fascinating how Tim Beck leaves for Nebraska, and Kansas fills his void with David Beaty. Gotta keep the Texas pipeline open.
4.) Oh, forgot to mention it - Kapron Lewis-Moore told me he thinks Darrell Scott is headed to Colorado, not Texas. Scott does have family in Boulder.
5.) Expect most the remaining players on the Star-Telegram national 100 list to announce next Wednesday on Signing Day.

Two quality clips

The top one is wide receiver A.J. Green, who's headed to Georgia (there's a much longer highlight video, but it had some colorful adjectives in the songs. Sorry...). Another is just for you UT fans. It's DeSean Hales. -Trae Thompson

Blue Raiders commit

Hurst L.D. Bell had two commitments. Now, the Blue Raiders have eight.
Players who have committed include running back Deante Piper (Northern Arizona), wide receiver Anthony Owosu and linebacker Taniela Vake both chose Eastern New Mexico, wide receiver Grant Milton (Angelo State), defensive lineman Thomas Lloyd (Fordham) and outside linebacker KC Aharanawa (Cornell). Three more could make decisions soon, according to assistant coach Gerry Stanford. Offensive lineman Ken Van Heule (Houston) and wide receiver Atem Bol (BYU) were the school's previous commitments. -Trae Thompson

Lewis-Moore relieved

Weatherford defensive lineman Kapron Lewis-Moore was like many other Aggie fans after Cyrus Gray announced his commitment to Texas A&M.
"You like that? You like that?'' he said. "We've got a dang good class man, I'm not joking."
Lewis-Moore, a Star-Telegram State 100 recruit, recommitted to Texas A&M on Thursday, ending a long and frustrating process.
"The recruiting was hectic, I was fed up,'' he said. "It was taking its toll. I was tired of it."
Lewis-Moore originally committed to Texas A&M, but decided to take all his visits after former coach Dennis Franchione resigned. Lewis-Moore said he returned from a visit to Notre Dame last Monday, and got a call from Aggies coaches asking what was going on, and if he was in or out.
"I was like, 'Hold on, I don't like how you're putting that pressure on me,''' he said.
So he decommitted. Contrary to Internet rumors, Lewis-Moore said Texas A&M didn't pull its offer. Word spread, and Lewis-Moore got a call from former North Richland Hills Birdville quarterback Tommy Dorman, who was understanding. By Thursday, he made his decision.
"Most definitely it's a burden off my back,'' he said.
Lewis-Moore took his visit to College Station on Jan.11, and got to meet new coach Mike Sherman.
"He's awesome,'' Lewis-Moore said. "He's real tight, real tight.''

Gray "comfortable" with Aggies

DeSoto quarterback Cyrus Gray (6-0, 188) called it a "hard decision" but said on Fox 4 that Texas A&M was the school he was the most comfortable with. Gray, a Star-Telegram State 100 recruit who will play running back, was in studio with family and friends. He thanked them, God and the city of DeSoto. When breaking down each of his finalists, Gray said on Fox that what attracted him to A&M was their great tradition and football and the chance to earn a great degree. -Trae Thompson

The race is on

OK, with Cyrus Gray going to A&M, you've got to think it's going to be a great race in the final days for the Big 12's best recruiting class. Leave a comment, give me your predictions. Time to call your shot now.        -Trae Thompson

Way to go Aggies

It's official. DeSoto's Cyrus Gray has committed to Texas A&M. -Trae Thompson

Sitting here watching Fox right now. DeSoto's Cyrus Gray just narrowed it down to Florida, Notre Dame and Texas A&M. Sorry Louisville. -Trae Thompson
