September 12 (Friday)
It was the first of two nights of qualifing for the Port-A-Cool U.S. National Dirt Track Championships at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track. Over 120 Limited Modifieds and 39 Sprints attempted to qualify for Saturday's Championship races.
ASCS Sprint Winner: Twenty-four Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour Sprints started Friday's 25-lap A-feature. Kevin Ramey, No. 7m, quickly jumped out to a big lead. Kevin seemed to be well in control until a caution came out for a bad wreck involving Johnny Herrera, No. 45x. On the restart, it didn't take Sam Hafertepe Jr., No. 15, to many laps to power his way around Ramey and take the $3,000 win. Danny Jennings, No. 1, was second, Matt Covington, No. 95, was third, Steve Smith, No. 4, was fourth and Jason Johnson, No. 41, was fifth. The top four positions are locked into Saturday's Championship final. Kevin Swindell, No. 94, Sean McClelland, No. 1, Brad Loyet, No. 05, Channin Tankersley, No. 17t, and Seth Bergman, No. 23, round out the top ten. Kevin Ramey dropped out with a bad tire, ending up in the nineteenth position.
