The weekend that was

Buschinfineon Pardon the tardiness of some of this news. This blogger was at Infineon Raceway last weekend for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race and festivities. Thankfully, Sunday's temps were somewhat cooler compared to Friday and Saturday in Sonoma, Calif. It didn't help, however, that the sky was hazy because of wildfire smoke. Kyle Busch, above, won his fifth Cup race of the year, and the second consecutive that I've attended. I also saw him win at Talladega in late April. Full results can be found here and, more importantly, updated Cup standings can be found here. Catch up on all the NASCAR rumors, including the newest scoop on Tony Stewart and who might drive the No. 5 car next year at nascar.com. Really geek out at jayski.com.

The motorsports world is still mourning the loss of NHRA veteran Scott Kalitta on Saturday. The NHRA continued on with the Lucas Oil SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in New Jersey on Sunday, but the mood was somber. Tony Schumacher (Top Fuel), Tim Wilkerson (Funny Car), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock), and Chip Ellis (Pro Stock Motorcycle) won their respective classes. Read more about Sunday's finals here. A public memorial service to celebrate Kalitta's life and drag racing career will be held Thursday (June 26) at 7 p.m. in Norwalk, Ohio. Fans who would like to donate to one of Kalitta's favorite charities or send e-mail condolences can go here for more info.

EdwardsmugCarl Edwards, left, broke out of a mini slump (does this guy really slump?) when he won the Nationwide Series race Saturday at the Milkwaukee Mile. That crazy kid Joey Logano was second and series points leader Clint Bowyer was third. Kyle Busch skipped the race, which of course was news. Full results here. Also in Milwaukee, pole-sitter Johnny Benson won the Craftsman Truck Series race on Friday for his first win of the year and third consecutive on the flat oval. Read more here.

Mutoh A couple of interesting story lines came out of Sunday's IndyCar race in Iowa Speedway. Sure, Dan Wheldon won for the second time this season, but rookie Hideki Mutoh's (right) second-place result was his best in eight starts. Marco Andretti rebounded from two dismal results to finish third. Texan A.J. Foyt IV was fifth for his best finish of the year and his third top 10 in 2008. Read more about Foyt here. Scott Dixon, who was fourth, extended his points lead to 48 over Helio Castroneves, who finished 14th. Full results can be found here.

The Formula One fellas were back on track, this week for the French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours, and the red cars were back to form. Ferrari's Felipe Massa won to take over the championship points lead. Teammate and pole-sitter Kimi Raikkonen was second despite having exhaust problems that dropped him from the lead. Jarno Trulli was third to give Toyota its first podium since Australia 2006. Read more about Sunday's race here and get full results here.
