The Lady Texans had to rally twice, but came away with a 9-8 win at home in eight innings over Colleyville Heritage. Cole Richardson, who played on JV last season, ended the game with a bases-loaded single over a drawn-in Lady Panthers outfield, scoring courtesy runner Courtney Milligan. Richardson struck out in her two previous at-bats and admitted she was nervous before she won the game for the Lady Texans.
Northwest (8-5, 3-0) stays atop District 5-5A, just ahead of Richland, whose game against Grapevine was pushed back to Monday. Colleyville Heritage (8-6) goes to 2-1 in district play.
Fighting back from early deficits has been a norm for Northwest, occuring in each of its 5-5A games. The Lady Texans came back from a 2-1 hole, tying the score in the third inning. Colleyville Heritage then scored six runs with no outs in the fourth. Northwest chipped away, scoring three runs in the fourth inning and three more in the sixth.
Natalie Nimmo led the Northwest offense with a 4-5 night and four runs batted in, while pitcher and No. 3 hitter Erinn Jayjohn reached base five times (three singles and two walks). Seven different Lady Panthers scored runs, with Shayne Cox scoring twice.
