Final: Irving tops L.D. Bell 54-52 in overtime

L.D. Bell had a final shot - it came from nearly the entire length of the court - but with standout Marshall Henderson taking the shot, the game wasn't over just yet for Irving. Henderson's shot had the distance, but hit the backboard to give Irving a 54-52 win in overtime to put both teams in a third-place tie in District 7-5A.

The Blue Raiders went up 41-28 with 2:30 left in the third quarter, but Theo Teamer and the Tigers (18-9, 6-3) rallied with long-distance shooting. Irving hit four consecutive 3-pointers, including three from Teamer to cut the lead. Teamer (14 points) started the fourth quarter with his fourth 3-pointer to tie the game.

The teams battled through the fourth quarter and went back and forth early in overtime. Henderson gave the Blue Raiders 13-11, 6-3) its final lead with two foul shots with 1:23 left in overtime, but Antonio Burns hit three free throws to give Irving the win.

Richland defeats Irving to win consolation championship

Tommy Butler scored 27 points and Kyle Green added 23 as Richland defeated Irving 81-65 to win the consolation championship of the Whataburger Tournament's Orange bracket on Saturday at W.G. Thomas Coliseum.
Richland started the game out on fire, blitzing the Tigers 26-6 in the first quarter. Green and Nolan Dennis combined for 22 of those points. But Irving responded with a heavy hand in the second, outscoring Richland 21-10. Irving came to within a bucket of tying the game in the fourth quarter, but went 6 of 15 from the free throw line while Richland hit 8 of 12.

Irving survives, plays in consolation championship at 4:30 p.m.

Demarius Washington scored 20 points and Antonio Burns had 16 to keep Irving alive in the Whataburger Tournament's Orange bracket on Saturday in a 61-56 defeat of Arlington Martin. The Tigers advance to play Richland - 54-50 winners over Coppell - in the Consolation Championship at 4:30 p.m. Martin was led by Ryan Barbre's 20 points. The Warriors lost to Milwaukee King in the first round and beat Mansfield on Friday.
