Southlake Carroll girls soccer wins state title

The Southlake Carroll Lady Dragons screamed, cried and finally planted slobbery kisses on the girls state soccer championship trophy.

Carroll played nearly flawless soccer to earn a 2-1 victory against Plano East in the Class 5A state title match at Round Rock ISD Stadium on Saturday.

Girls soccer: Birdville 0, Wichita Falls Rider 0 (halftime)

Fairly even match so far. Rider controlled the early portions of the match and generated two quality scoring chances, but came up short. Birdville came on later in the half and had their best chances  off set pieces.

Birdville is packing its defense playing only one forward up top so the Lady Hawks aren't giving up much.

Bell-Trinity rivalry renewed

It may be her first year at Euless Trinity, but interim head coach Patti Callahan is fully aware of the meaning behind Friday’s regular season finale match with L.D. Bell. Not only would the Lady Trojans finish District 7-5A undefeated with a win, they’d be doing it with a sweep of their school-district arch rival. “The rivalry (with Bell) is huge,” Callahan said. “It is my first year here, but believe me I have felt the rivalry. It’s ‘Beat Bell, Beat Bell.’” Bell (10-1-0) could tie Trinity (11-0-0) for the district crown with a win. The Blue Raiders lost the first match 1-0 on Feb. 19.
The match is scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. start, but there’s a senior players ceremony, too.
