Arlington's Perez overcomes stomach flu to beat Bowie

Liz Perez hit a two-out, three-run triple in Arlington’s six-run fourth inning to help the Lady Colts defeat Arlington Bowie 10-4 on Friday at Workman Field. Perez (3-1) was so sick that head coach Tommy Edmondson was afraid she might throw up on the mound. However, she persevered to strikeout six in 4 1/3 innings for the Lady Colts (6-9, 3-1 in District 8-5A). Bowie (6-3-1) dropped to 3-1 in district after it couldn’t capture a win against the team that handed them its only two district loses a year ago. Victoria Veyna fell to 3-1 after four innings of work one start after her first no-hitter on Tuesday in a 15-0 win over Sam Houston.

Help on the way for Arlington Bowie baseball

Bowie has gone the entire nondistrict season without its injured Nos. 1, 3 and 4 starting pitchers which may explain why the Volunteers have a 2-9 record.
But hope is on the horizon. Ace pitcher Heath Stuckey (elbow) is scheduled to return next week and No. 3 Christian Garcia (knee) and No. 4 Jonathan McDonley (knee) should be back in two weeks.

Bowie clawed out a tough win at Martin. Bowie's Lauren McKinney scored a team-high 14 points making up for leading scorer Amenemope McKinney, who has battlling a flu bug. Arl. Bowie boys bounce back nicely

Arlington Bowie's boys basketball team enjoyed a solid 58-50 win over surging Arlington Sam Houston on Saturday.

The Volunteers (12-7, 3-0) are showing they can win in a variety of ways. They outlasted Arlington Lamar in an ugly, halfcourt affair Thursday, then topped Sam Houston, which likes to play uptempo.

Friday's game against Arlington Martin should be fun. The Warriors were the team that essentially kept Bowie out of the playoffs last season. Bowie could be 5-0 in district play if it sweeps Arlington and Martin this week.
