News from the Rangers' clubhouse

Tommy Hunter has joined the team, though he won't join the roster until Saturday. He will take Derek Holland's turn in the rotation, making at least two starts before the left-hander is eligible to come off the disabled list.

UT-Arlington center fielder Michael Choice was among the draft prospects who worked out for Rangers scouts Sunday at Rangers Ballpark. Choice, a likely top-10 overall pick, did not have a full workout, though, as he was recovering from a late-night bus trip back from the Southland Conference tournament. The players at the workout are from the region, so the workout wasn't a showcase of first-round talent. But the players are expected to be taken in the first 10 rounds.

David Ortiz is the American League Player of the Month for May, edging out Rangers designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero. Closer Neftali Feliz finished as a runner-up in the rookie vote to Detroit outfielder Brennan Boesch.

With high temperatures in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, manager Ron Washington is planning to give catchers Matt Treanor and Max Ramirez one day game each.
