Brandon McCarthy, off to a fine start at Oklahoma City, has been placed on the seven-day disabled list with a stress fracture in his right shoulder blade. That's the same injury he has suffered twice previously. He was examined by Dr. Keith Meister, who believes rest will take care of the injury and McCarthy should be back soon. That might be a relative term, considering McCarthy missed more than two months with this injury last year.
When Ian Kinsler does return from the disabled list, probably Friday, he will bat fifth behind Vladimir Guerrero and ahead of Nelson Cruz. That was manager Ron Washington's plan entering the season, and he isn't going to deviate from that. With Cruz off to a fast, powerful start, Washington believes Kinsler will see better pitches. "Kins is the type of guy I think will rise to the challenge," Washington said. "Our plan was to have Kins in the areas where he can produce for us."
Bench coach Jackie Moore has left the team after the death of his daughter. Sherry Moore-Parker, 52, died Sunday in Houston, and a cause of death has not been determined. Funeral arrangements are pending. Scott Servais, the director of player development, will serve as the sixth coach tonight, and hitting coach Clint Hurdle will also pull duty as bench coach.
