Desperate to find a baseball official to speak to, the assembled media's eyes widened when Jon Daniels and Thad Levine made their way to the front desk of the O'Hare Hilton to check in for the general managers' meetings.
In all honesty, the national media has plenty to talk about with Daniels and Levine. But because they were among the first club personnel from around the majors to arrive this afternoon, each was approached by media types immediately after checking in.
Both granted more time to the local media throng of one. Daniels confirmed that, indeed, Scott Littlefield has been hired in baseball ops. The Padres' former national crosschecker, Littlefield will be a special assistant with the Rangers with a heavy concentration on scouting.
Other than that, though, there's not a lot of news on Day 1 here, and there might not be any on Day 2 or Day 2 1/2 (a half-day Wednesday). But Daniels, Levine and several members of the Rangers' front office will meet amongst themselves. That includes John Hart, who is walking around the hotel with his left foot in a boot after suffering an injury to his Achilles' tendon.
