Some Labor Day notes

The tarp is on the field at Progressive Field as the grounds crew braces for a possible rain cell. Baseball is expected to be played without much delay. There might not be any delay.

Josh Hamilton had a second root-nerve injection today but won't join the team in Cleveland. He wouldn't be able to play Tuesday, and the Rangers are out of here Wednesday; so, it doesn't make sense for him to endure another plane trip.

The Rangers will give Derek Holland an extra day's rest before his next two starts, but the rookie left-hander will not be shut down the rest of the season.

Andruw Jones will come off the disabled list Tuesday and will jump into the starting lineup against left-hander Aaron Laffey. Esteban German will play third base because Omar Vizquel has informed manager Ron Washington that he feels better batting left-handed. Vizquel's average batting right-handed? .485.

Expect Ivan Rodriguez to start catching more, though nothing is set is stone. Washington wants Rodriguez to catch all of the pitchers, and Pudge will start Tuesday because Brandon McCarthy fared well last week with the future Hall of Famer behind the plate.
