The doctor the Texas catcher met with in St. Louis confirmed thoracic outlet syndrome. Saltalamacchia will meet with Dr. Greg Pearl tomorrow and go over his options. He'll likely have surgery because the rehab process has about a 50-50 success rate.

Actually it is much better than 50%. Our son had this same surgery in the early part of Sept in 2008. Full recovery can take up to 1 year. Our son is a high school senior this year and has committed to play baseball at the college level next year. He too, is a catcher. He is completely 100% back to normal. Dr. Robert Thompson, out of St. Louis MO, performed his TOS surgery and he is the BEST!!!! He was recommended to us and we would recommend him highly to anyone that is looking to have this type of surgery done. He has written books on TOS and teaches other fellow surgeons how to do this surgery. You can get in touch with Dr. Thompson, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, Washington University - school of medicine.
