Jarrod Saltalamacchia had surgery

Rangers catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia underwent surgery this morning in Dallas to correct thoracic outlet syndrome. Dr. Greg Pearl confirmed his diagnosis during the procedure.

Saltalamacchia's season is over, but he impressed the coaching staff with the strides he made defensively in his first season as a regular major-league catcher. Manager Ron Washington said every aspect of Saltalamacchia's game behind the plate improved, and he will go into spring training as the No. 1 catcher assuming Ivan Rodriguez isn't re-signed in the off-season.
