Right fielder Nelson Cruz was added to the All-Star team Friday morning and asked to participate in the Home Run Derby on Friday night. Cruz said he will be one of the four members of the American League squad Monday at the Derby, which Josh Hamilton starred in last year.
Hamilton hit 28 homers in the first round, but was edged out for the title by Justin Morneau as homers don't carry over into the final round. Hamilton, who has been on the disabled list twice this season and came of the DL only five days ago, said he will not participate.
"I know Josh would do it if he was healthy," said Cruz, who hit his 21st homer of the season in a 6-4 Rangers victory Friday. "But I'm not going to do like Josh, hitting all those bombs."
