Lots of Rangers pitching news

The Rangers have made the following transactions:

Kris Benson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with elbow tendinitis, retroactive to April 16. The right-hander threw a bullpen this morning in Toronto and felt improvement, but not enough to make a scheduled start Saturday. Scott Feldman will start for Benson this weekend at Baltimore. Benson will return to Arlington for an exam with Dr. Keith Meister.

Right-hander Dustin Nippert has been moved from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL after he felt more discomfort in a muscle near his shoulder blade during a bullpen session Tuesday in Oklahoma City. He has been bothered by the injury since March.

The Rangers have claimed right-hander Darren O'Day off waivers from the New York Mets. He takes Benson's spot on the 25-man roster and Nippert's spot on the 40-man roster. The Mets acquired O'Day from the Angels in the Rule 5 draft in December, so O'Day will have to stay on the 25-man roster the entire season or be offered back to the Angels for $25,000.
