Rangers 6, Diamondbacks 4 (F)

Travis Metcalf went 3-for-5, drove in the tiebreaking run in the eighth and scored later in the inning as the  Rangers snapped a two-game spring losing streak.

Other notables:

<>Brandon McCarthy pitched a scoreless first inning but allowed two runs in the second. He was pleased overall with his effort, but he needs to working on throwing his slider for a strike. McCarthy switched from a curveball to a slider take load off his elbow.

<>Neftali Feliz struck out four in two innings in his spring debut. The Diamondbacks managed three hits, a walk and run against the Rangers' top pitching prospect.

<>Andruw Jones was 0-for-2 with two strikeouts and a walk. He's 1-for-9 this spring with eight strikeouts, but manager Ron Washington said, "I just want him to relax and play his game. He's going to keep getting at-bats until a decision's made." Jones can opt out of is minor-league deal March 20.

Rangers 5, Diamondbacks 4 after eight

Travis Metcalf broke a 3-3 tie with a double in the eighth and later scored to give the Rangers a 5-3 lead. Arizona countered with a run off Tommy Hunter in the bottom of the inning, making it 5-4 going into the ninth.

Rangers 3, Diamondbacks 3

The Rangers tied the game with two runs in the fourth, and Neftali Feliz, Josh Rupe and C.J. Wilson have held the Diamondbacks scoreless since the third.

Feliz was impressive at times in his spring debut. The Rangers' top pitching prospect allowed a run on three hits in two innings, but he fanned four and walked only one.

Andruw Jones continues to struggle. He went 0-for-2 with a walk to leave him 1-for-9 this spring. All eight of the outs he has made have been strikeouts, but he remains confident he will start hitting.

"I think I'm trying to do too much, trying to be too perfect," he said. "The confidence is there."

Diamondbacks 3, Rangers 1 after three

Arizona scored twice against Brandon McCarthy in the second and added another run off Neftali Feliz in the third.

McCarthy breezed through the first inning, retiring the side in order, but the Diamondbacks put together three hits -- including a double by Mark Reynolds -- in the second.

Feliz struck out the side, getting Felipe Lopez and Augie Ojeda to start the inning, but Chris Young singled, Justin Upton doubled in Young, and Reynolds walked before Feliz fanned Josh Whitesell.

Saturday a.m. notes, Surprise edition

While Jeff Wilson travels to Tucson, I and some of the other Rangers are still back in Surprise. Marlon Byrd said he's not 100 percent yet but will play Sunday because that's the only way he'll be able to tell exactly where he is. Omar Vizquel has been bothered by a sore lower back he hurt during batting practice. He said he feels better and expects to make his exhibition debut Sunday. Jason Jennings is scheduled to throw a simulated game Sunday and hopes to be pitching in exhibition games Wednesday or Thursday.

Cubs 10, Rangers 4

Scott Feldman's bid to win a spot in the starting rotation got off to a rocky start as the right-hander was pounded for nine hits and seven runs in 1 2/3 innings of work against Chicago. Feldman faced 15 batters, with 10 of them reaching. There were pitching bright spots as Luis Mendoza worked 2 1/3 innings, allowing one hit and a walk. Jarrod Saltalamacchia accounted for two of the nine Texas hits with a pair of doubles. Former Rangers Milton Bradley did not make the trip to Surprise as he's nursing a sore quad.
