Just Wondering....

Some things to ponder:

....If the Red Sox are indeed about to sign John Smoltz, giving them six veteran starters (Josh Beckett, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Jon Lester, Brad Penny, Tim Wakefield, Smoltz), does that mean they might now be more inclined to trade one of their young starters for one of the Rangers' young catchers?....

....If the BoSox add Rocco Baldelli, that almost surely removes a potential Rangers' chip from the table in Marlon Byrd....

....As it gets closer and closer to spring training, might one of the sluggers who may be disappointed that the long-term deal he expected isn't there consider a one-year deal with Texas, figuring he can juice his stats at The Ballpark and try the free agent market against next winter? Adam Dunn? Bobby Abreu? Of course, the only way the Rangers would likely be interested in that arrangement is if they're able to trade Hank Blalock and need a bat to replace his in the lineup.

....With the Rays adding Pat Burrell and the Yankees adding someone new to the Forbes 500 almost daily, will the BoSox feel the need to make a bigger splash themselves? Are they happy with Jed Lowrie at short, or would they have an interest in the Rangers' Michael Young?

....Food for thought....dig in.

I can't see the Rangers trading Young nor the Red Sox offering a significant package for him.
It sure would be nice if we could pick up Buchholz for Salty and a mid level pitching prospect.
Blalock's not going anywhere with the glut of run producers available for what a team would have to pay for him.
It's nice to have you covering the Rangers - I'm looking forward to the season!

First of all.... Michael Young's name should be nowhere near talks of being traded, he is one of the most consistant players to ever play... He is the heart and soul of this franchise, it just doesnt make sense at all.. I think JD should only trade the young talent at the 2 spot on the field if they get a pitcher of the same quality in return, other wise spring training will decide who starts on opening day. Bobby Abreu maybe but way to expensive, Adam Dunn strikes out way to much, i still believe in the HAMMER!! and no more of this "prospects that may be mlb ready" Only trade him if you can get mlb ready pitchers in return and if not he should stay he's still young enough and comes alot cheaper, give him one more season. This is the year the rangers contend!!!

Being a Sox fan, Salty would be the least interesting of the (3) catching prospects. His defensive liabilities are well documented and Teagarden or Ramirez I believe project to be better at the position. I couldn't understand why Texas traded Texeira for Salty in the first place with Laird and Teagarden already in the system. Although I'm not thrilled with the pitching signings that the Sox have made this offseason I would applaud a trade for Teagarden or Ramirez even at the expense of Bucholz.

Sox fan,
The Rangers didn't trade Teixeira for JUST Salty ... they also got one of the best pitching prospects in the game in Nafeli Feliz, a great shortstop prospect in Elvis Andrus and a young left-hander who won 9 games for them last season and could evole into a good fourth or fifth starter in the rotation for years to come. It was a great trade!!
