Rainout?
Granted, there's eight hours or so until the scheduled first pitch against Detroit, but current conditions and the forecast for the rest of the day would indicate that a rainout is looming. Obviously, there is no official word.
Here's why this game could be postponed quickly:
Each team has a scheduled off day Thursday.
The Tigers, no doubt, could use a rainout. They haven't had a day off since Aug. 4, and their bullpen is taxed after allowing 30 runs over the weekend to Baltimore -- 16 of those were Sunday.
Considering the potential tired state of the Tigers' staff, the Rangers might not want a day off. But a rainout would give them the chance to rest Scott Feldman an extra day of rest or just skip him. (The Rangers remain concerned about his workloald.) If they used Feldman on Tuesday, Vicente Padilla could get an extra day's rest for his inflamed sternoclavicular joint.
Steady rain is in Tuesday's forecast as well, and a doubleheader just doesn't seem possible. We'll find out if there's a game tonight in about eight hours.
