German DFA'd

Right-handed reliever Franklyn German, who threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings Tuesday, was designated for assignment Wednesday, and Kameron Loe will be available in the bullpen Wednesday.

Basically, German was caught up in a numbers game.

The move gives the Rangers an extra relief arm. They were down to only five innings for Wednesday, and the addition of Loe gives them a pitcher who can pitch multiple innings.

Josh Rupe could have been optioned, but then the Rangers would have been without their long man for a minimum of 10 games. With Luis Mendoza and Kevin Millwood expected to come off the disabled list soon, there's no guarantee that Rupe would make it back.

if Washington would quit wasting his pitchers and quit playing righty /lefty matchups{using a pitcher for only one batter} the bullpen would be more available. I remember when pitchers could get out batters from both sides of the plate.

DFA'ing German is an idiotic move that has Daniels' name all over it. German's been effective and C. J. Wilson hasn't, so Wilson should've been sent down, with the closing duties falling to Frankie Frank or Everyday Eddie.

And what's to be gained from calling up Loe? He's had plenty of chances to prove he's anything more than a once-through-the-order guy at best, but unfortunately one must conclude that he's not MLB material.
