Byrd to DL, Duran called up

A sore left knee has forced Marlon Byrd to the 15-day disabled list, and the stiff back of Hank Blalock made utility infielder German Duran the logical choice to be called from Triple-A Oklahoma to take Byrd's spot.

Duran will make his major-league debut at third base tonight for Blalock, who might not be ready to play again until Sunday. Duran, who went to Paschal High School, was hitting .250 in 10 games for the RedHawks. He said he has recovered from a hand injury he suffered Friday.
