Brenden Morrow

Words from inside

Here's a few goodies from the post-game fun.

Trevor Daley, on his usual kiss of Marty Turco's helmet after a victory: "Marty got a little tongue out there."

Banter between Marty Turco and Brenden Morrow, when Marty was asked if he did anything different before Game 5. Marty: "I didn't think of anything.
Brenden: "Did you tell them about that chicken?"
Marty: "No, no, there's no chicken. It was a rooster."

Mike Ribeiro on Turco's first win at "The Joe": "That's sick."

Morrow scores

Red_wings_stars_457 If his shoulder/arm are hurting him, you wouldn't know it. Brenden Morrow gives the Stars another goal, giving them a two-goal cushion with less than five minutes remaining in this one. The guy never ceases to amaze.

Tomas Holmstrom just dinged one off the post, by the way. Detroit is firing on everything right now, and has been since the second period. Never feel safe against this team.

Morrow: I'm fine, I'm playing

Brenden Morrow talked in the big room today (that's the one with all the microphones and the transcribers). He said he was feeling just fine and he's ready to go for tonight. I asked if he feared the worse when he first went down, but he said it looked a lot worse than he actually feels. So welcome to Mr. Morrow back in the lineup.

Was there ever any doubt?

Bumps, bruises and the brink

It was a relatively quiet day out at practice, mainly because there weren't enough people on the ice to consider the lines they had out there as gospel.
Here's the gist on the big hurts: Mike Modano said he was fine, and he will play tomorrow night. Brenden Morrow wasn't out there (spending the day with his newborns) but he's also expected to play tomorrow.
Jere Lehtinen and Stu Barnes are out for Game 4. And Mark Fistric was sick today, so he wasn't skating either. Doubt we would see him tomorrow, too.

So there are all the aches and pains, at least the physical ones. I haven't realized until now how beat up this team is. Not a complete excuse for what's happening, but... when you're missing anyone against Detroit, especially the bodies you are missing, that doesn't make things much easier.

Morrow update

Sports_redwingsstars_17_ft It's OK, Stars fans. At least according to Stars head coach Dave Tippett. Tipp said in his postgame press conference that Brenden Morrow is OK. He just suffered a bit of a stinger on that arm/shoulder after falling awkwardly.

-- Keeli Garza

Morrow hurt

Brenden Morrow went off the ice with what had to be a shoulder/arm injury. Morrow was looking to hit Brad Stuart, but instead collided with the boards. It wasn't that so much, however, as his fall. He landed on his left arm, landing awkwardly as it looked like the arm bent backward a little.

But somehow he gets back on the ice. He did go through the door instead of going over the boards(probably unable to put any weight on that left arm).

It's a boy and girl

Brenden Morrow and his wife, Anne-Marie, expanded their immediate family on Sunday afternoon. Anne-Marie gave birth to twins, a boy named Brady and a girl named Mallory. Stars PR said mother and newborns were doing just fine. No word on how dad was holding up.

Sorry, but I always have to post something when babies are born. I adore kids. It's adults I usually can't stand.

Robidas scores

The Stars even it up thanks to a delay-of-game penalty on Nicklas Lidstrom. Stephane Robidas laced this one through a fairly open net (Brenden Morrow was down front causing some havoc) just 14 seconds into the power play.

Mike Ribeiro and Brenden Morrow on the assists.

A Red Wings rebuttal was just waved off; the ruling is Henrik Zetterberg touched in on a hand pass. Anyway, the Stars need to use that break.

May 08, 2008

Morrow scores

The Stars get a turnover and turn it into something. Steve Ott took the initial shot, and Brenden Morrow came back to knock the rebound home. Comes at 18:53 of the second period. It's something, anyway.

Hmm, Morrow in front with the goal? There's something I haven't typed before.

Amazing

Sharks_stars_643 I was fearing the worst, the way the Sharks were swarming in the overtimes. But what can you say about this team? Or about Brenden Morrow and Marty Turco? I'm figuring any naysayers of the goaltender will be very, very quiet for the next few days.

But that was an unbelievable game, and an incredible goal by Morrow. Once again, he's sitting right there waiting for the pass, and Stephane Robidas delivered. The boys will get the next day or two to rest (why not after this?) before preparing for Detroit. It gets fun from here, folks. Sharks_stars_644Not many were expecting this considering the March they had -- at least I wasn't. So enjoy it, folks. We'll be back with you soon.

No doubt about this one

Stars_sharks_hockey_003 After that lousy call that nullified Brenden Morrow's first goal (and I'll still call it a goal, because it was), Morrow got an equalizer. Antti Miettinen keeps it in the zone, Brad Richards passes to Brenden Morrow, and Morrow hits a beauty on a far angle. Five-hole goal, at the 19:04 mark in the second period.

That disallowed goal was so ridiculous. Everybody was incredulous that it was whistled off. Radio guys, TV guys. Oh, and by the way, it didn't hit the back of Morrow's skate. It hit the front. Ridiculous.

Morrow scores

Morrow The Stars have struck again, this time with Brenden Morrow scoring his fourth goal of the postseason. Actually this was created mainly by Mike Ribeiro's attempted wraparound. The shot went wide, but Morrow was there to clean things up.

Morrow, from Ribeiro and Matt Niskanen at 9:09.

April 03, 2008

How about 3-0

Phoenix defenseman Keith Ballard looked like he was making a pass. But the puck hit off Brenden Morrow's stick, and Morrow got control of it and beat Ilya Bryzgalov for a 3-0 lead at the 19-minute mark of the second period.

Unassisted goal. That's three goals for the Stars in the second period, always their best frame.

March 29, 2008

Morrow makes it 3-1

Brenden Morrow gets goal No. 31 on the power play, as the Stars go up 3-1 at 6:15 in the second period. Stephane Robidas' shot set it up, as his blast got through Erik Ersberg enough to just sit in the crease. Morrow just tapped it in from there. Assists to Robidas and Ribeiro.

March 27, 2008

Morrow hits the big 3-0

In goals, kids, not age. Ah, to be young again.... Sorry

Anyway, the Stars get one at the end of a great-looking power play. Just as PP time elapses, Brenden Morrow gets one through a prone Evgeni Nabokov for a 1-0 lead at 15:59 of the first period. Credit Mike Modano for the wicked shot just previous to this. The save Nabokov had to make on that goal left him out of position, and nobody picked up Morrow on Nabokov's left side.

Modano and Mike Ribeiro on the assists.

March 22, 2008

Morrow's 29th

Brenden Morrow gets in the right place and collects his 29th goal in the process. Sitting right in front, with no Kings apparently willing to move him, Morrow deflects a Matt Niskanen shot in for a power-play goal and a 1-0 lead at 13:08. Trevor Daley gets the second assist.

Stars 1-1 on the power play today after going 0 for 7 against the Duckies.

March 19, 2008

Morrow scores a shorty

This is why Marty Turco's play with the puck is a tremendous lift for this team.

He caroms a clear off the glass, Mathieu Schneider can't stop it with the glove, and Brenden Morrow is off to the races for a shorthanded goal to give the Stars a 1-0 lead. Giguere didn't seem to know what to do with this one, and he was still standing when the shot went through his legs.

Credit Marty with the only assist.

February 22, 2008

Morrow gets his 25th

That should tie his career high, if I'm correct. And this was a nifty one.

Morrow actually whiffed a bit on his first shot, but it went through the legs of Jarret Stoll, and he was able to get the puck back, slide over and slip it in for a 3-0 lead. Steve Ott and Mattias Norstrom get assists at 17:13.

February 09, 2008

Morrow on the PP

Brenden Morrow does it again, this time on the power play to give the Stars a 1-0 advantage at 5:02. St. Louis goaltender Hannu Toivonen had made some nifty stops before the PP, but this wasn't one of them. Looks like the puck went between his glove and his left leg. Not a good one allowed.

But the Stars will take it. Credit Mike Ribeiro and Mike Modano on the assists.

February 05, 2008

Stars tie it

The officials reviewed this for some reason. Don't know why. Anyway, the news:

Brenden Morrow ties it up, as his shot deflects off Canucks forward Alexandre Burrows' skate and in at 16:40. Credit Mike Ribeiro and Jeff Halpern with assists.

February 01, 2008

Morrow scores

Brenden Morrow doesn't hesitate on this one, taking the quick shot immediately after Ribeiro fed him the pass, and his top-shelf shot beats Dwayne Roloson to tie it at 1-1. Credit Ribeiro on Lehtinen with assists (think they were mid-change. Lehts was out there w/ Mo and Jokinen on the next shift).

Stars still getting outshot 20-9, by the way.

January 22, 2008

Morrow scores

Right-place, right-time goal for Morrow, who picked up the bouncing puck from Antti Miettinen into the open right side of the net for a 1-0 lead. Ribeiro had the secondary assist, at 3:51. That's Morrow's 20th goal this season.

Once again, the Stars are being outshot, albeit not as bad as the other day. Still, they're the first ones on the board. Morrow almost got another one about two minutes after his first, but LeClaire got that one.
