The Stars are expected to assign backup goalie Tobias Stephan to Bridgeport of the AHL today to allow Stephan to get some playing time. Stephan has just three starts for the Stars this year.
Bridgeport is the affiliate for the Islanders and has three games in three days this weekend.
The Stars would then recall Brent Krahn from Chicago of the AHL.
Krahn, 26, was signed as a free agent by the Stars in the summer. He was the ninth overall pick in the 2000 entry draft (by Calgary) but has battled knee problems throughout his career. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound backstop is 4-3-0 with Chicago with a 2.28 GAA and .914 save percentage. He has not yet played in an NHL regular season game.
There is no timeline on how long the Stars will use this configuration.
Krahn is expected to be ready to play for the Stars if he is needed during this busy weekend.

It's a plan that you would think more teams would follow with young guys, more often.
What does the future hold when the Stars don't have their own AHL affiliate though?
I have linked to this over at inGoalMag.com and look forward to seeing more goaltending stories on your site!
