Wednesday update
There was a big media contingent at today's practice for Mike Modano's all-star selection. Of course, Steve Ott couldn't resist having some fun. As the media throng began making its way to Modano's locker, Ott, whose locker is right next to Modano's, began speaking unsolicited about making the all-star team and what an honor it was.
I thought Modano was deserving of making the team. Loui Eriksson was really the only other legitimate candidate to represent Dallas (James Neal has been great as well, but it's tough for rookies to make the All-Star team), but his name recognition isn't that prominent league-wide. If Eriksson can duplicate this start next season, he will definitely turn more heads. Maybe if the Stars were in the top four or five in the West, they could have snuck on a second player, but Modano was the right choice.
Joel Lundqvist seems ready to go, but I don't know if he's a player in Detroit. He plays well against the Red Wings so it would be nice to get him in the lineup, but he's only gone through one really intense practice. I don't know if that's enough to warrant a return. He'll be a game-time decision. Saturday against Phoenix maybe a better bet.
Landon Wilson (ribs) will be out at least a week to 10 days and probably more. Dave Tippett said Wilson's return will be in the "weeks" not "days" timeframe.
So was Modano the right choice to represent the Stars in the All-Star Game?
