Tuesday updates

Hey kids,

It was back to work for the Stars today after their lengthy travel day back home on Monday (I'll get to the fun of all that in another post). Anyway, onto the updates:
    Jere Lehtinen and Darryl Sydor were not practicing today, but Dave Tippett said it was just a rest day for both.
    Meanwhile, Joel Lundqvist was back out practicing... with linemates. Yep, no dark blue jersey symbolizing "I'm still hurt and without linemates." He took Jere Lehtinen's place with Mike Modano and James Neal in Tuesday's practice. Lundqvist said he's feeling much better. He will go on the Detroit-Phoenix trip, and Tippett said they'll see how he does in tomorrow's practice before deciding if he can go Thursday against the Red Wings. My guess is he will.
    Fabian Brunnstrom, meanwhile, is still another 7-10 days from coming back from his high ankle sprain. He walked through the facility today without the boot he's been wearing for the last week, so I would take that as a good sign. Still will be several days before he practices, however.
    Landon Wilson was seeing his doctor today but he'll be out at least a few days. And Sergei Zubov had surgery this morning.
    I talked with Les Jackson real quick this afternoon and asked him about Mark Fistric. He said the defenseman could be called up "in the near future." Fistric's returning to perfect health with that surgically-repaired knee, and the Stars want him to get some more games in with Manitoba. Now where he fits in when Tippett is happy with his defensive pairings right now, I don't know.

    Oh, and forgot to put a mention of Marty Turco in, since someone asked: Marty practiced for about a half hour and then left. He's fine. Probably just getting him in there to stretch his legs and get a few shots in. Andy Moog was there today, too, so Marty may have gotten in a little work prior to practice with Moog.

Was Turco a :no show" at practice today? I missed seeing him there this morning.

Have the Stars made public yet what exactly is wrong with Zubov and I missed it? Or is it still hush-hush?

Casey,
Zubov has a hip injury, and it's on that hip he had his procedure done today. Tippett was uncertain how it went, but it doesn't change his status for the season. He's still out for the remainder of it.

Sorry, knew that much, I meant more specific than hip injury (i.e., something like Russian-rusty-hip-syndrome). From how it sounds, it seems as though he got the surgery done to prolong his career (which meant forfeiting this season of course).
