Mike Modano mentioned after this one that this was a good tape for the Stars to hold onto, to remind them that they can do this and this is how they're going to have to play for a while. I admit, that was a fun game to watch. Great performance by Marty Turco, solid defense in front of him, and you could tell that Fabian Brunnstrom and Tom Wandell were thrilled to score against their Swedish idols.
Said Brunnstrom: "Of course I know all the players on Detroit so it was fun." Same from Wandell: "I can't really describe the feeling right now. I have to wake up first."
As for Turco, the Stars are going to need outings like that until they get a little healthier. Make that a lot healthier. Sure, he got a break here or there with the just-missed shots and the ones that hit posts. That comes with the territory. There wasn't nearly as much skittishness in clearing the puck in this one, either.
Said Turco: "Personally, I felt great tonight. A team that does shoot the puck as often as they do, you have to be on your toes at all times. It certainly does feel good to get this one."
And a little more Marty on how this team pulled this one out: "We need them all. But the pressure that could come with that feeling just hasn’t seem to set in in this room. We haven’t heard anyone feel sorry for themselves, nobody has their head down thinking tonight was impossible with the depleted roster. We have a bunch of gutty guys who can get the job done for however long it takes."
I think coach Dave Tippett said it best in one line: "I don’t think there would be many odds-makers picking us to win that game." No, methinks not, either.
Now they do have to keep this close in mind, especially with Nashville tomorrow night. It was a big one against a tough team. Have to parlay that into more.

Can't have a let-down against Nashville.
