Bennett headed to Pitt

Former SMU coach Phil Bennett, who was fired with four games remaining during the 2007 season, has accepted the defensive coordinator's job at the University of Pittsburgh. A source close to the situation confirmed Saturday that Bennett has alerted friends and family members to the impending hire.

A formal announcement is expected soon.

Bennett, 51, spent six seasons at SMU and compiled a record of 18-52. His best season was 2006, when the Mustangs finished 6-6 but did not receive a bowl bid. Bennett's signature victory came in 2005, when the Mustangs upset then-No. 22 TCU, 21-10, giving the Horned Frogs' their lone defeat during an 11-1 season.

Bennett, a former Texas A&M player, has previously served as a defensive coordinator on staffs at Kansas State, Texas A&M and TCU.

Hey, look! It's the TCU offense!

The Horned Frogs are putting together another great drive on offense, with Andy Dalton going 13-16 for 165 yards so far in the second half.

They keep this up and they could have a 14-point lead with less than 9 minutes left in the game.

Your turn:
What do you think Gary Patterson said to his offense during halftime?

Sack by Blake

Tommy Blake just sacked Houston QB Case Keenum for a loss of 6, forcing a punt.

The broadcast guys again point out that this is the 275-pound Blake, not the 255-pound Blake. No additional insight on what other snack foods Blake enjoys, though.

Touchdown Frogs

TCU running back Justin Watts had scored only one touchdown heading into the Texas Bowl tonight.

Watts scampered for a 7-yard touchdown to give the Frogs a 17-10 lead in the fourth quarter and double his scoring total for the season.

Touchdown Frogs

A quarterback sneak by Andy Dalton ties the game at 7-all with 10:24 remaining in the first half.

Dalton setup his touchdown rush with another carry for five yards on 3rd and 4.

Quotable

Said Brad Sham, calling the game on the NFL Network:

"Maybe it's this end of the field that causes the penalties".

Plagued by penalties in the first quarter, the Frogs benefit from a flag thrown on the Cougars - 15 yards for defensive pass interference.

Flag football

A holding penalty just cost TCU a touchdown on a 44-yard run.

Penalty count for TCU so far: 4
Average penalties per game this season: 6

Good opening stand by TCU defense

Despite allowing the opening kickoff to be returned 32 yards, the Horned Frogs defense held tough and forced the Cougars to turn the ball over on downs on the TCU 49.

Horned Frogs have the ball and are moving downfield.
