UNT golf targets 2
North Texas, attempting to repair a golf program in serious disarray since last February, has zeroed in on a few candidates to replace departed Jim Bob Jackson, who resigned with two tournaments left in the fall season. In July, UNT hired Jeff Mitchell to start rebuilding a tattered women's program. It's surprising how low golf at UNT sank in recent years given the fertile region for high school and junior golfers.
Anyway, sources say Tennessee assistant Bryce Wallor and former Florida assistant Brad Stracke appear to be UNT's top targets. Wallor has been at Tennessee since the spring of 2004, helping the Vols finish 16th and 11th, respectively, at two NCAA Championships.
While at Florida, Stracke interviewed for head-coaching jobs at Louisiana-Lafayette and UNC-Wilmington. He left coaching last summer to enter medical sales but apparently wants to get back to the course. Florida finished second, 9th and 11th in the NCAAs the three years Stracke was there. As a junior-college head coach, he won an NJCAA national title before going to Florida.
